Kestä: Sustainable Fashion App Design
Kestä (Finnish for “endure” or “last”) is a design research project focused on developing a mobile application that encourages sustainable fashion consumption through behaviour change psychology and user experience design.
This exploratory research investigates how young adults make fashion purchasing decisions and proposes a digital solution to promote more sustainable choices. The app concept includes digital wardrobe management, cost-per-wear calculations, and community features for clothing swaps and outfit sharing.
The design process combined user research with behaviour change psychology, incorporating principles like social proof, gamification, and positive reinforcement. The visual design reflects environmental values whilst maintaining modern usability standards and intuitive navigation.
This project demonstrates the potential for combining user-centred design with environmental advocacy, exploring how digital tools might influence consumer behaviour towards more sustainable fashion consumption patterns.
